Chasing a bunch of rumors today, but this one just keeps popping up...
According to multiple sources, the Islanders, currently on top of the Metro Division, have had discussions with Columbus...currently in second place in the Metro, three points back and in a heated divisional race with the Islanders...
It is incredibly rare to see teams this close in the standings talking about a star player, but there is some logic to this as Panarin shares pending UFA status with a lot with some of the better Islanders players...
From a source: "A deal would almost have to include an extension from both sides on this...The Isles and Jackets would then have to allow players agents to talk prior to a deal going down...which makes this even more uncomfortable....unless both players are looking to start over this summer anyway..."
Lou Lamoriello never shares ANYTHING on the rumor front, but has never been afraid of making a big splash for big talent...all you need to do is remember the Kovalchuk sweepstakes in Atlanta years ago. Lou and NJ were barely even in the conversation...
