Evander Kane stays hot; Erik Karlsson injured; Sharks lose in Tampa

Evander Kane potted another pair of goals in spite of the San Jose Sharks 6-3 road loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.

Marcus Sorenson scored his second goal in the last three games since signing that two-year extension and Martin Jones made 20 saves in the losing effort.

San Jose has now lost two games in a row following that seven-game win streak. For Jones, the loss snapped his eight-game winning streak.

And just to add insult to injury, literally.... Erik Karlsson didn't even survive the warm-ups. He was scratched late because of that "lower body" (ankle) injury he's been dealing with. It's been nagging him quite a bit and he was seen limping in the locker room following the Arizona game.

Karlsson may not play again until after the All-Star break. Let's hope it's not worse than that. I'll update when I hear more about it.

With Calgary winning in Edmonton as I write this, the Sharks could find themselves down six-points in the standings for first place in the Pacific Division by nights end.

Despite all the negatives, Kane continues to play his best hockey of the season and maybe as a Shark. He picked up his 18th and 19th goals of the season, giving his three goals in his last two games and his 16th point (7g 9a) in the last 11 games.

San Jose plays back-to-back games in Florida and Washington on Monday and Tuesday before the All-Star Break. If they plan of heading into the break on a high note, they'll need more heroics from Kane and friends just to make up for loss of their All-Star defenseman.
