Caps keeping an EYE on Holtby - Can't see future |

Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby is still having some issues with his eye that was clipped in during the Columbus game on January 12th.
While Holtby has been on the ice since and was expected to start in the last game at Nashville he was eventually pulled in favor of back-up Pheonix Copley just a couple hours before game-time. I suspect the Capitals will call up a goaltender from AHL Hershey should Holtby feel unable to go again tomorrow. This is a wiser move then having him on the bench as he was vs the Predators if he’s not 100 percent.
His appearance in the All-Star game could be affected should his condition not progress though coach Todd Reirden says it’s too early to make that call. He’s confident the injury is not a long term one but can’t be sure of exactly when. Literally a day-to-day thing.
Illya Samsonov and Vitek Vanacek have both been playing well for the Hershey Bears with Vanacek recently being named to the AHL All-Star game and Samsonov is currently riding a two-game shutout streak. Neither player has played in an NHL game though Samsonov was called up earlier in the year.
