The San Jose Sharks defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 on Tuesday night for their seventh consecutive victory.

Led by Tomas Hertl's hat trick and goals by Marcus Sorenson and Joe Thornton, San Jose improved to 28-13-7 with 63 points. They trail Calgary by one point for first place in the Pacific Division.

It's been a strange season, but San Jose has clearly righted the ship and reside comfortably amongst the NHL's elite.

Some winning streak Shark bites to nibble on.

- Three of the seven wins came at the expense of three excellent clubs, Tampa, Vegas and Pittsburgh.

- The franchise record for most wins in a row is 11. They've won four in a row to end the 2011-12 regular season and seven in a to start the 2012-13 season.

- Joe Thornton played in game 1,000 as a San Jose Shark and celebrated with a goal. Jumbo has been slowed by injuries over the last few seasons, but he's managed to stay relatively healthy to reach this milestone. Next up is 1,000 points in a teal sweater. I believe he's six points shy on that remarkable feat. Bottom line, thank the good Lord for making Joe Thornton a San Jose Shark.

- When Tomas Hertl buried the ENG for his third goal of the game, he joined Logan Couture as the only Sharks with a hattrick this season. Couture's big night came way back in October. San Jose only had two hat tricks in all of last season. Couture had one of those and Evander Kane had the other.

- Martin Jones was heavily criticized for a poor start to the season. I think it's safe to say he's put that all behind him. Jones is 8-0-0 in his last eight starts with a .917 GAA and 2.03 goals against average. Overall he's 22-8-4 with a 2.72 GAA and .903 save percentage.

- San Jose has 28 wins through 48 games with 63 points this season. Through 48 games in 2017-18, they had 26 wins and 59 points. Proving statistically they are actually better than last season. Neat.

- Captain Joe Pavelski already has 26 goals this season. He scored all of 22 in 82 games last season. Nor Cal has it's 30 goal Pavs back once again.

- The Sharks just extended Marcus Sorensen. The 26-year-old is having a career year offensively with nine goals and seven apples in 48 games. He provides valuable bottom six depth with some offensive ability. Nice work Mr. Wilson.

The Sharks can make it eight straight tonight vs. the Coyotes. Enjoy the fun.
