A few days ago the Penguins and Casey DeSmith came to an agreement on a new contract.

As far as the on-ice stuff goes Casey DeSmith has shown to be a quality backup goalie so far in his career. He has a .929 5v5 save percentage and facing high-danger shots his save percentage is .853. These are strong numbers for a backup and it is clear he has secured his spot with the big club. This of course leaves Tristan Jarry without a spot in the NHL within the organization. Quite frankly, he hasn’t earned it. He’s only shown one 45 game stretch in the AHL during 2016-17 where he was performing at a high level (all situations .925). This year he is at .910 and last year was .901. For those thinking this frees up the Penguins to trade Jarry away, it does. However, don’t expect a ton of value by doing so. He is a goalie who has been average at best in the AHL. If the Penguins get something of value back in a trade which involves Jarry it will be because it was an NHL19 trade where he was just the throw in with the other pieces that have actual value. Prepare yourself to be underwhelmed with his trade value.

There wasn’t a lot that went right for the Penguins on Saturday night against the Kings. The highlight was having probably the most famous person to publicly don a Pittsburgh jersey DJ warmups and provide some play by play

Get that money.

Pittsburgh gave up their tenth shorthanded goal of the season. They lead the league in this regard.
