It's Trade Freeze Friday...and this year I am hearing more than ever that teams are trying to make deals prior to the actual Holiday trade freeze...which is Wednesday, December 19th... Historically, the Friday prior to all the big NHL transaction days (the deadline, the Draft, and UFA day) are days where we hear a ton of rumblings and quite often a few deals are made.
Who's looking to make moves?
Currently the Flyers, Blues, Rangers, Kings, Senators, Canadiens, Oilers and Hawks are the teams whose names are popping up the most.
On the Flyers.
The word around Philly is Fletcher wants to make at least one major move prior to the 19th and that move would would most likely be for a goalie...I am hearing the rumors about the Flyers acquiring Jonathan Quick as I have written previously, but I am also hearing of a bigger deal that could land Mark Stone and Craig Anderson in Philly. The issue is the Sens are not going to tank this season so the Flyers may have to wait for the deadline...at which point there may not be a point....The Flyers coaching staff looks like it has until after the holidays to get the team going...which of course coincides with Joel Quenneville making a decision as to whether or not he would return this season.
On the Blues.
Talking to another team's GM and he says the prices being floated on the current available players is "nutty high" but that's to be expected at this point as the Blues aren't in any hurry here. One team asked about Jaden Schwartz and was told two #1 picks...I love Schwartz, but for a guy who has fought hard to stay healthy that price tag is just absurd.
On the Canadiens.
One team that you should look to is Montreal. I am told the Habs are talking seriously to the Kings regarding Jake Muzzin (e4)
On the Senators.
Teams have called about Duchene and have been told they are expecting to be extending and keeping Matt...However, Dzingel is getting some serious interest...one of those teams calling is Edmonton.
On the Oilers.
Hitchcock I am told wants the Oilers to make a serious play for Parayko.
