There is a lot of talk right now about Auston Matthews possibly signing an offer sheet with another team on July 1.

People are speculating a lot right now because the Leafs are in cap hell with the William Nylander signing and an obvious need looming on defense. This team simply can't have this many forwards taking up this much of the salary cap.

The Leafs can't afford to let defenseman Jake Gardiner go, either.

However, regarding offer sheets, people need to remember that the players themselves have to agree to the deal and be willing to leave their current team, something I keep hearing Matthews has no desire to do.

Of course the Leafs will also match ANY offer. However, the size of Matthews deal could very much put Mitch Marner in play, UNLESS Nylander is moved.

Most the people I talk to feel Marner is the issue...
