Back-to-back in Cali

The road warriors continue their trip tonight with the front half of a back-to-back in California, taking on the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center. The Nashville Predators have started the season with a sparkling 8-0-0 road record, including wins in the first two games of the current road trip, winning two straight over Central Division opponents. Saturday’s win over Dallas featured a last second comeback and a “sweet justice” goal from Mattias Ekholm to seal the win in overtime. The Ducks enter tonight’s game after a 5-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild.

The road gets no easier tonight as Nashville pays a visit to our old friends. Let’s face it, these two teams flat out don’t like each other. After a few nasty playoff series, and a hilarious Twitter fight between Ryan Kesler and Ryan Johansen, tonight is one to stay up for.

The Preds come into tonight’s game leading the league on a five game win streak with a 13-3-0 record, good for 26 points. Minnesota and Winnipeg are nipping at the Preds heels with 24 and 21 points respectively. The Ducks have been struggling a bit as of late, 2-6-2 in their last 10, but don’t let that fool you, they will be up for tonight. The injury situation for Anaheim has been bad, they are missing Corey Perry and have lost over 112 man games to injury, and they are only 18 games into the season.

In net, expect Pekka Rinne for the Predators, John Gibson for the Ducks.

ON the offensive side, the Ducks are scoring by committee, Jakob Silfverberg and Pontus Aberg are leading the team with 5 goals each, and yes Pred fans… that Pontus Aberg. It appears that the former Preds prospect has finally found an NHL home. Rickard Rakell is leading the team in points with 12, Ryan Getzlaff has 11.

Ordinarily, I would call this a potential “trap” game as the Predators fly to San Jose right after, but there is no way the team is looking past this one. Game time is 9pm CT, pregame on 102.5 the Game starts at 8pm, pregame on Fox Sports Tennessee starts at 8:30pm. Game coverage on both media begins at 9.

Random Notes

- Milwaukee Update – The Ad’s snapped a five game losing streak yesterday with a dominating 7-1 win over Chicago. Eeli Tolvanen had a breakout game, potting two goals on three shots, his season total is 3 goals and 7 assists for 10 points. Milwaukee is back in action for two in Iowa, Wednesday and Friday.

- If you didn’t see the NHL.com feature on Jalen Ramsey seeing his first NHL game, check it out… Ramsey is from Nashville and plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

- The Preds have introduced three-game Smash Packs, including access to “golden games.” Check it out at the Predators website.

- Don’t look now, but the toughest game of this road trip could come Thursday night in Arizona.

- I know Thanksgiving comes early this year, but wow… it seems like we just dropped the puck on preseason last week.

- New coach, same Blackhawks… dropped a 4-0 decision to Philly on Saturday, their next chance to get their new coach off the schnide is tonight in Carolina.
