Maple Leafs flawless on the road; Matthews 10

The Leafs will be back on home ice tonight when they welcome the Los Angeles Kings to the Scotiabank Centre. It already feels weird not referring to it as the ACC, kind of like how Rogers Centre is still called the Sky dome by many Blue Jays fans.

Will Matthews continue his scoring streak? Ten goals in six games…unheard of! We always knew when Auston was drafted things were going to change, you could feel it. You could see the look on Shanahan’s face as he held that Maple Leafs logo on the card and the little smirk he had.

Toronto’s no longer a team that others come into play and think “this is an easy two points”. Those times are behind us, and glory is here.

On Saturday night the Leafs were scored on 18 seconds in the game by the defending Stanley Cup Champions. Did that slow them down? No it sure didn’t as we saw the Leafs storm back and end up winning 4-2 with Andersen playing a phenomenal third period making a few superb saves which kept the Leafs in the lead and able to secure their third road win in a row.

Personally I was very happy to see Leivo pop one in on the power play as he’s paid his dues and he really looks like he’s ready to contribute on a nightly basis for the Leafs. Another great moment for the Buds on Saturday was when Par Lindholm scored his first National Hockey League goal. He also took one away from Ovechkin just above the blue paint as he tied Ovi up and cleared the puck. A solid addition to the Leafs roster if I do say!

The Leafs have a busy week ahead with three games against what should be three playoff teams. The Kings tonight as I mentioned followed by Pittsburgh on Thursday and then the Blues will make their way to Toronto on Saturday to complete the three game home stand.

Is anyone else completely baffled that William Nylander is still not signed?

I’ve always been a big Nylander supporter; I even have an away white jersey. But this is nonsense, get your act together, deflate your head and get in the lineup before you end up on the Coyotes. Enough is enough Willy, let’s get it done.

Look for Garret Sparks in between the pipes tonight. There is a good chance that Jack Campbell will be starting for the Kings tonight as Jonathan Quick is still injured.
