Another solid win on Saturday night and the Nashville Predators are off to a 2-0-0 start as they head home to four games in seven nights inside the friendly confines of Bridgestone Arena.

Opening night in Smashville is tomorrow night… the traditional Gold Walk will be at 4pm on the plaza, the party on the plaza will begin at 5pm. We also have a really cool opening ceremony to the home schedule, be in your seats early for the festivities. The Preds Operning Night opponent is the 1-1-0 Calgary Flames.

Then, Thursday night is a second round rematch of last season’s epic series between the Jets and Preds as Winnipeg hits town. The Jets have their home opener Tuesday against the 1-0-1 LA Kings. Then on Staurday night, the Predators finish their season series with the New York Islanders as Barry Trotz beings his squad to town as the teams play on two consecutive Saturdays. Between those two games is “Five for Murder” a hockey-themed murder mystery to benefit Best Buddies and then the home stand finishes off with a Monday night tilt against the Minnesota Wild.

The Predators are off to a sloid start. The JoFA line has been hot, the FiST line has also been dangerous. Both Pekka Rinne and Juuse Saros were excellent in net as they split starts in the first two games. But the best news of the first two games may have been that Nashville had really good starts to both games. Even though the Predators have yet to tally a goal in the first period so far, the play has been solid and dangerous scoring chances has been generated across multiple lines.

So far, the sleepy starts we got used to seeing last season haven’t been there. The team has really cut down on giveaways and have seemed to step up the physical game.

It’s only two games, a small sample to be sure, but the team has been consistent in most phases of their game… hard to ask for more than that.

Random Notes

- Gotta give Colton Sissons credit, he has come out strong so far… he’s a +3 with a goal and 2 assists, plus a 55% face off win percentage… I will take that!

- There be afternoon hockey today! Senators/Bruins and Sharks/Islanders both drop the puck at noon CT… then it’s Vegas / Buffalo at 2pm CT, that game is on NHL Network.

- Interesting tidbit from last night’s wild Carolina/NY Rangers game… Andrei Svechnikov scored his first NHL goal, becoming the first player born in the 2000’s to score an NHL goal. Damn I feel old…

- 32 goals scored yesterday in the NHL… why is that number important? Oh… maybe because there was only THREE games!

- Crazy game at the UC yesterday… three goals in the last minute and a half of the third period in the game between Toronto and Chicago… the Leafs took in OT 7-6. And yes… there were goaltenders in the game.

- And speaking of Chicago… what a great tribute to Stan MIkita last night.
