Game Takes-opening night edition

Opening night is always a fun one. Nerves about even for the announcers not just the team as the whole crew has to get their games together and fine tune them. The Jets opened the season on the road in St. Louis, a team that hopes to improve upon last season after falling short. They made some big offseason moves to shore up their team adding Ryan O’Reilly, Tyler Bozak and David Perron for his 3rd tour of duty with the Blues. Hasn’t Perron had enough suffering?

Apparently not as the Jets took a 5-0 lead and you could almost feel for Jake Allen as he got the Bronx cheer after it was 4-0 when he made a save. This is game 1.

Have Fortnite no problem.

Patrik Laine, after torching the Canucks yesterday who have banned Fortnite from the road, Laine backed up his smack talk with a wicked wrist shot to open the scoring and get his first goal and PP goal.

#GingerPower

Kyle Connor has looked good all preseason and training camp and many are commenting on his tenacity and play. Not only that he’s got some flow going and a bright orange beard.

Connor was good all night and managed to take a tripping call while being hooked on the arm he was apparently tripping with??? The Zebras were obviously in pre-season form still like the defence in this game.

He redeemed himself though as he set up Blake Wheeler to make it 3-0 after being released from hockey jail and setting up the captain with a slick pass across the ice right in front of Allen for a Wheeler chip in. Even the guys getting the good quotes couldn’t not notice #gingerpower

No more M&Ms please

Myers and Morrow were paired together as the third pair and before the game had started this was going to be a choose your own adventure-type pairing. They were exposed. In 14:!3 of 5vs5 ice time together M&M had a 32.14 CF%. They got turned around far too often and it obviously had an effect as Myers couldn’t even find the right penalty box after he shot the puck over the glass.

That wasn’t the only questionable play though for the tall guy. He was all over the map causing everyone to question things. The twitteratti had some thoughts

So about those young guns?

Ehlers got moved up and switched with Perreault later in the 3rd but yeah- dropping him to the third line speaks volumes about where the head coach sees the problem. It’s not Ehlers fault but he’s going to pay the price so Little and Laine benefit? The fact is everyone know playing with Perreault makes you better even the old guys.

Scotty is right but when you sign a guy for 7 years and 42 million you might want him to produce what you are paying him for and that’s going to take some time with Jack and Kristian. They were in positive territory in the shot differential measurements but did they generate much?

The Fourth Pairing

Can't forget about another pair Jets fans are going to see for the season, Beyak-Sawyer. Some were pulling a Constanza and said “I’m out” early but that didn’t stop the others from chiming in. The fans notice.

It wouldn’t be a game without some sort of Beyak fun too…

The best offside of the night…

Never doubt North End Rick, he always shows up especially when you don’t want him to.

The star goes to the goalie though as this was a defence optional game. He faced 42 shots and 69 shot attempts. I’m sure ‘ol North End Rick can work with that one too. Regardless, the Jets one in fine style even if there were a few nicks on the new suit… can we get a hell yeah?
