Quick Hits: September 23, 2018

1) The Flyers have a 10:30 a.m. practice on Sunday at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on the heels of a game in Allentown on Friday and a grueling 90-minute practice yesterday. On Monday, the Flyers are back in preseason action at the Wells Fargo Center.

2) There was good news and bad news at Saturday's practice. The good news: Shayne Gostisbehere practiced one day after being taken out of Friday's game in Allentown for precautionary reasons. He looked fine. The bad news: Sean Couturier left the ice with a trainer about 10 minutes into the session and did not return. As expected, Michal Neuvirth (suspected lower-body injury sustained in Friday's morning skate) was not on the ice. If there are any updates on the injured players on Sunday, I will update this blog or note it in Monday's game preview.

3) The Flyers lost Danick Martel on waivers to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. The Bolts are now obligated to keep Martel (who appeared in four NHL games last season for Philly) on their NHL roster for at least 30 days or 10 game appearances, whichever comes first. The clock starts ticking on Oct. 3. After that, he is eligible to be re-waived and assigned to the AHL.

4) All four of the other veteran players the Flyers waived on Friday -- forwards Phil Varone, Cole Bardreau and Greg Carey as well as defenseman T.J. Brennan -- cleared waivers on Saturday. They were all assigned to the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Likewise, waiver exempt forward Radel Fazleev was medically cleared on Saturday and assigned to the Phantoms. Pascal Laberge is injured and cannot yet be assigned to Lehigh Valley, so he technically remains on the Flyers' camp roster. The roster officially stands at 35 players, including injured players.

5) Prospects update: Morgan Frost had a goal and an assist in the Soo Greyhounds' 6-0 win over the North Bay Batallion on Saturday. On his goal, Frost stripped a defenseman of the puck just inside the attack zone and soloed for a backhanded goal through the five-hole. In other action, Matthew Strome had a two-assist effort for the Hamilton Bulldogs, while recently signed Yegor Zamula did not record a point and was minus-two in a losing cause for his Calgary Hitmen in WHL regular-season opening weekend. Over in the SHL, Felix Sandström stopped 23 of 25 shots in HV71's 5-2 win over Luleå.
