Hockey is officially back after latest cheapshot

Pittsburgh dropped another decision to what is likely another non-playoff team in the Atlantic Division. It still doesn’t matter or mean anything. Detroit controlled the game against a very scaled down Penguins lineup. No Penguins player finished above 50% in possession. Jack Johnson played his first game for the Penguins. It’s way too early to have an opinion on his fit with the team. That would hold true if he was awesome or terrible. He was neither last night.

In other happenings around the league Max Domi completely scummed Aaron Ekblad with a cheapshot sucker punch that dropped him to the ice.

Ekblad has a history of concussions and showed no aggression leading up to the punch. Fortunately, Ekblad did not show signs of yet another concussion. Fighting in hockey is dated and stupid for many reasons, but this doesn’t even fall into that category. This wasn’t two people agreeing to take part in a pointless endeavor. This was Domi acting like a child doing something that shouldn’t be part of the sport, even if you’re a pro-fighting Neanderthal.

The league is in an easy spot, at least they think they are. They will probably suspend Domi for the rest of preseason and pretend that those games actually matter. Whatever punishment he gets in the regular season will be negligible and not send any sort of message. It’s so stupid that players think they can go around behaving like that.

Hockey is back!
