Burrows Retires, Immediately Joins Laval Coaching Staff

Alex Burrows announced his retirement as a player in the NHL and shortly thereafter signed on to join Joel Bouchard bench as an assistant coach with the Laval Rocket.

Alex had a 13 year career that saw him play in Vancouver from 2005 until 2017 when he was dealt to Ottawa in a terrible deal that saw OTT try to make a playoff push at the expense of top propspect Jonathan Dahlen.

Burrows was a gamer though and you could count on him to never give up and even cross the line from time to time to remind opponents that he really doesn’t care much about them. Alex was fortunate enough to play in 913 NHL regular season games scoring 205 G and 204 A and 85 NHL Playoff games scoring 19 G and 20 A.

At 37 years old its clear that Burrows love for hockey is strong as he is taking no time off between career changes. The youth movement beginning in MTL and Laval could use someone like Burrows. A player that played the game with intensity and drive who knows what the new NHL requires. Seems like this has the potential to be a fantastic addition to J Bouchard in Laval for this upcoming season.

Weber Surgery Result Of Worse Than Expect Damage During Knee Scope

Dr Mulder of the Canadiens met with the media to field questions regarding Shea Weber’s surprise meniscus repair surgery.

It’s been revealed that during a minimally invasive surgery to Weber’s knee, there was substantial damage to his meniscus that required proper surgery. The surgery reattached the meniscus and the end result is anticipated to be full recovery and strength in the knee.

Mulder describes Weber, and the organizations, reaction being that of shock, but everyone understood that it’s better to find this now and fix it completely than deal with issues down the road.

It’s relieving to hear that Weber is anticipated to make a full recovery and the his knee should be in better shape than before. Weber is a work horse style player who logs heavy minutes and is regarded as one of the strongest players in the league. Some extra rest for him isn’t necessarily a bad thing, especially when you consider he’s likely to be one of those players that plays effectively into his late 30’s.

It’s good to know a key piece of the roster and a key leader for the youth movement will be back with a stronger knee than we have seen in his time with the Canadiens.

It was further stated that Weber’s foot surgery was a success and full recovery is anticipated as well.

De La Rose Signs 2 Year Pact with Habs for $900k per year (AAV)

The 23 year old C Jacob DLR signed a 2 year contract with the Montreal Canadiens for a very reasonable $900k per year. He scored 4 G and 8 A in 55 games last season for MTL.

DLR recently served as an effective checking line C on the Gold medal winning Swedish team at the Worlds and will likely occupy the same position on the Canadiens the fall.

An effective, young player who’s still finding his way but who also is already establishing himself as a responsible, smart player on the ice. If DLR can continue his development on a positive trend arc then the Habs will be very happy with this bottom 6 C in the future.

The C positions currently look like this from 1st line to 4th: Drouin, Danault, DLR, Plekanec.
