The Coyotes Beat the Capitals in O.T

I write this through an early morning fog of Advil and ice-water. Even though it's noon.

It's Christmas time and I had a bit too much fun last night. I did a Draft Kings line-up and watched three hockey games with a couple bottles of wine (switching from the $30 bottle to the $12.99 bottle half way through the night is a bad move) while my wife wrapped a bunch of presents. My help was not wanted or appreciated.

When Clayton Keller scored to give the Coyotes a 3-2 win, I wasn't just pumped to see my second favorite hockey team win a game, but I had him in all three of my Yahoo pools and my DK lineup. Good times. I won $24 bucks (and missed out on the winner take all by three points) and my yahoo team, _____s!, made a stellar comback on the hated Rink Worms.

For the Coyotes, the win ended a seven game losing streak.

For the Capitals, they probably aren't too happy about the result. They had the game in the bag with a minute left when Christian Fischer scored to tie it up.

Despite the loss the Capitals are something like 11-2 recently, but still, losing to the Coyotes is like getting beat up by your sister, so that's got to suck. They did control 61% of the game, so I'm not sure what they're really supposed to do beyond that. Send a bottle of Champagne to Scott Wedgewood, I guess.

Old Wedgewood has proven to be a great pick-up. The Coyotes actually have half-decent goaltending and a great stable of young talented players, although they've sadly sent Merkley and Strome back to the AHL so we can watch guys like Archie Archibald Jr. and Nick Cousins help the team to it's worst ever season.

Watching the game, and seeing how terrible Tobias Reider is, I had one thought: how in the hell can you justify scratching Anthony Duclair ten times and playing that guy?

Rieder has finished the night with a 21% CF rating and one blown breakaway. Archibald didn't look half bad to me, but here is the crazy thing: he skated for nearly 14 minutes 5v5, which I am nearly positive is more 5v5 ice time than Strome received in a single game.

Let's say Strome did suck when he was here (I don't think he was too bad) shouldn't he at least have gotten a lot of ice time in his first game after getting called up? On November 28th against the Oilers, after a month in the AHL where he led that league in scoring, he was called up and rewarded with 11 minutes of ice time.

For the record, Dylan Strome has a 45% CF rating overall, but when he's played with Keller or Fischer (i.e actual good players) he is over 50%. But sure, let's demote him so we can see Archibald FFS.

For Christmas, this team needs a coach.

Still, good game.
