Enough About the Refs. We Ain't Dead Yet. Remember 2003!

So any of you who follow me on twitter know that I am just about as irate and upset about last night’s botched calls by the refs that assisted the Avs in tying and winning the game. But the whining, bitching and complaining ends there. Period. Since the sport of hockey implemented officials, everyone has complained about them in just about every game that was ever played I suspect. The complaints about botched calls has never been more prevalent than this year’s NHL playoffs. Hopefully it will lead to changes for the better in getting the right calls made so that the game can be decided even handedly and as fairly as possible. Notwithstanding, I have always told my boys and/or players that in the game of hockey, you have to win despite the refs. The same holds true for hockey at the highest level. And I don’t care what team you cheer for. I cheer for the Wild, but the lesson to take from last night is that one goal leads are not nearly enough when playing a competitor like the Avalanche. Sure sometimes you will squeak a win or two out. And at other times, you will be snakebit. So everyone, please, get over it. It’s over and there are still games to be played. No more excuses. Execute on the ice and you have nothing to worry about. Plus, bad calls go both ways in a 7 game series. Like it or not, the Wild lost last night. But to hang it all on the refs is absurd. And give credit where credit is due. The Avs pulled another one out of their backside. If we weren’t Wild fans, we would be applauding their resilience. Bravo Colorado and Avs fans. You got us. Again. But, we ain’t dead yet. Remember 2003? I do. Your coach does. You all should because this series is going 7 games and my money is on my team still.
