Woo Afternoon Buzzoff: Larsson should spend a year in Albany
Adam Larsson, the best player in the 2011 NHL Entry draft by some experts, signed a three year deal with the New Jersey Devils. Larsson will either play in the NHL or AHL this year.
I believe Adam Larsson should spend the entire season in Albany.
It is important not to rush this prized talent and let him develop as a player and young adult. The North American game is different from what he is used to with the wide open spaces of an international rink and the language barrier can be a challenge for your young players. Remember, he is just 18 years old.
I love the fact that there are no individual performance bonus packages in this deal. It is the Lou Lamoriello team-first philosophy and things are done the right way.
Rushing him up to the NHL will do him no good.
If Larsson buys into the Devils successful system and works hard, he will be destined to the HHOF with a few Stanley Cups. He is that good and it is only fitting as Nicklas Lidstrom's career is coming to a close, there will be his fellow Swede carrying the NHL torch as the best defenseman.
One step at a time and Larsson's journey should start in Albany.
