History can repeat itself, even in short order. Recently Detroit entered the 3rd period down 1-0. In the final minutes 2 goals made their way in and Raymond had the game winner. Tonight, Detroit entered the third down 2-1. Larkin tied up the game on a nice spin around shout at the bumper position (giving Johansson his first NHL point) and Raymond less than 2 minutes later tipped and Edvinsson shot in and that would be the GWG. For good measure, with 2 seconds left, Edvinsson scored an empty net goal from deep in his own zone.

The good news was that Detroit’s PK stepped up (to be fair against a power play ranked 31st) but Detroit’s PK for the third straight game was stonewalled by the 31st ranked PK. Still, the tying goal by Larkin may be on several highlight reels for Detroit promos this year. Raymond’s tip in was a beauty and Seider walked into a shot to open Detroit’s scoring. So the young defensive tandem played a significant role in the offense combining for 3 points. Not bad at all.

Detroit can move past the Isles having swept the series for the first time in a very long time. Johansson had some good moments, Kasper was noticeable and Veleno set a nice screen for Mo’s goal. For tonight, let the team and fans enjoy this one. Wings were outshot 30-21 and Lyon is a vex on this Isles team. It wouldn’t be surprising for a club to be looking at the expiring low $ contract Lyon carries at some point. Carolina is looking, but what would they be willing to part with?

For now, the tandem of Talbot and Lyon are one of the brighter spots on the team. As always, let me know your thoughts on the game and anything that stood out to you.

1st Period goals:

Detroit came out flying but couldn’t get a shot on net, the Isles got the first goal at 4:35. 1-0 Isles.

At 13:25 Seider tied it up with a snot from the top of the right faceoff circle while Veleno provided a good screen. Copp and Fischer with assists. 1-1

Shots: 6-5 NYI
Score: 1-1

2nd Period goals:

At 7:42 the Isles regained the lead. 2-1 NYI

Shots: 16-12 NYI
Score: 2-1 NYI

3rd Period goals:

At 11:20 Larkin restored the tie. After a Johansson shot missed the net the puck went to Holl at the blue line. A shot to “the bumper” ended up on Larkin’s stick who spun and shot it in for his 12th of the season. 2-2

Under 2 minutes later, Seider sent a cross ice pass to Edvinsson who shot the puck and Raymond tipped it in. 3-2 DET

With 2 seconds left and the Isles having pulled the goalie, Edvinsson shot after getting in just inside in his own zone and into an empty net. Full credit to Rasmussen for just protecting the puck so his teammate could get the goal credit.

Shots: 30-21 NYI
Score: 4-2 DET
