The game had a promising start. Kasper looked incredible and the team was physical. Then, things got too physical and Watson was gone for the night giving Ottawa a 7 minute power play. No score.

The third saw Ottawa come to life. Detroit headed into the period up 2-0. Ottawa scores, Tarasenko restores the 2 goal lead but the rest of the game saw Ottawa take over.

Any issues with officiating, I leave it to you. The power play hasn’t clicked for the top units in the preseason, and several of you have pointed to the preseason as being an inaccurate picture of what we’re going to see. It was good to see Edvinsson step up and get fairly physical.

Full honesty, I started the night thinking Kasper may get a few regular season games to start on the second line and/or Watson will grab a bottom 6 spot sending a couple of guys onto the waiver wire. By the end, I have no idea. Kasper has stood a head taller than any other prospect (opinion) and Watson can clean the crease. IF Watson gets a spot, who do you think hits the bus to Grand Rapids? Let me know your overall thoughts.

One more preseason game for the Wings then we start the season in a tough division and conference. Some fun moments, it was good to see Tarasenko rip a bar down shot, but missed assignments and bad communication became costly down the stretch. It’s preseason, that will be repeated over and over again. Still tough to watch at times.

1st Period Detroit goals:

At 1:24 Kasper took a nice pass from Motte as they skated into the O zone and scored to open it up. 1-0 DET

At 8:32 Kasper skated the puck in to the left faceoff dot and sent a knuckler in for his second of the night. 2-0 DET

*after some tussling Ottawa ends up with a 7 minute power play, Watson done for the night with a 5, 10 and game misconduct.

Shots: 10-6 DET
Score: 2-0 DET

2nd Period Detroit goals:

Wings kill the entire 7 minutes.
Game still physical throu the 2nd period.
No goals scored, excellent PK by Detroit

Shots: 17-16 OTT
Score: 2-0 DET

3rd Period Detroit goals:

With around 13:15 left Wings get a 4 min pp after Edvinsson made a huge hit, was challenged and declined while shoving the agitated Sens player to the ice. If he can be a strong and physical player at that size, a big plus.

No score again. Power play just not clicking.

Sens score with 8:33 left. 2-1 DET

With 4:52 left Tarasenko collected the puck in the neutral zone, skated in on the left size and went bar down far side from the faceoff dot. 3-1 DET

24 seconds later Ottawa scores on the power play. 3-2 DET

With 3:25 left Ottawa tied it up. 3-3

Shots: 33-25 DET
Score: 3-3

Overtime

Ottawa wins in 19 seconds

Shots: 33-27 DET
Score: 4-3 OTT
