Washington has hired Spencer Carberry as their 20th head coach in franchise history. The first to coach with the ECHL and AHL affiliates. He has spent the last two years with Toronto.

Nashville has hired Devils’ assistant coach Andrew Brunette to be their 4th head coach in franchise history. Brunette coached the last season President’s Trophy winning Florida Panthers. He now gets Columbus alumni Matt Duchene and Ryan Johansen.

These moves pull two coaching candidates off the Columbus radar.

Carberry was higher up on the nominee board.

The job remains vacant. Assistant coach Pascal Vincent also interviewed with one of the open jobs per Aaron Portzline of the Athletic.

Interestingly, he also stated his contract allows him to interview without permission.

This screams personal opportunity for growth over team loyalty, though he has the resume to be a first time NHL coach.

Maybe, he takes an internal promotion, similarly to Larsen.

The 2023 QMJHL Champion Quebec Nordiques are in the 2023 Memorial Cup Championship v TBD on Sunday June 4. This includes CBJ prospect James Malatesta.

Player Profile - Jordan Dumais

Jordan Dumais is the 2023 QMJHL MVP. Dumais is a third round pick by the Blue Jackets from the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, 96th overall. This was the third round pick from the David Savard trade at the 2021 trade deadline.

Dumais, 19, led the Q with 140 points in 64 games. Dumais signed his ELC on Black Friday 2022.

The Montreal native put up back to back 100 point seasons in Halifax, and is proving to be a potential steal from the draft.
