G68: Kraken vs Sharks - Bouncing Back

Things continued to go well for the Kraken after the Trade Deadline, as the Kraken kept right in the middle of the Pacific Division playoff race with a 5 game winning streak. Unfortunetly Seattle is now trying to pull themselves out of a 3 game losing streak. During this losing streak, Seattle has outshot their opponent twice and been nearly equal in shots in another.

In both the first Stars game and the Senators game, the Kraken had leads going into the third period but in both games they were not able to get a timely save. For much of this season the Kraken have been able to get by on average goaltending and the ability to outscore their opponents. We are seeing many more "playoff like" games where things tighten up more and teams are jumping on mistakes of their opponents. We are in the middle of March and is anyone certain they know who will be the starting goaltender come the playoffs?

Tonight's game against the Sharks is a must-win game. A win tonight puts Seattle back in third in the division (depending on how the Oilers fare) and then Seattle hosts Edmonton on Saturday for a battle which will assume who holds 3rd in the division.

Vince Dunn is getting paid this summer. The pending RFA has 8 points in his last 5 games and has taken over as the leading scorer for the team. Dunn is averaging over 23 minutes a game and continues to be revelation and an elite top four and potentially a really good top pairing player. His contract is likely going to start with an 8 at bare minimum.

Matty Beniers has not scored a goal since February 23rd against the Bruins. I say he is due for one tonight.

After this weekend the Kraken will continue a trip through the Central Division as they will take on the Stars one more time before playing the Preds twice and then the Wild to conclude a four game road trip. They also play the Coyotes three more times in April. The Stars and Wild both could finish first in the Central meaning there is a high chance that Seattle could play either in the first round if they end up as a Wild Card team. So far the Stars have had the Kraken's number and the Wild are generally an annoying stifling team. I wouldn't like Seattle's chance much against either opponent.

Enjoy the game!
