The Vancouver Canucks made multiple moves in February, but they were expected to make more on Trade Deadline Day. However, once we hit 3 p.m. ET on March 3, the Canucks made just one NHL trade – sending Curtis Lazar to the New Jersey Devils in exchange a 2024 fourth-round pick. They also made a minor move, as they traded AHL defenseman Wyatt Kalynuk to the New York Rangers for future considerations.

As a result of this, trade targets like Brock Boeser, Conor Garland, J.T. Miller, and Tyler Myers will remain Canucks for the rest of the season. With that, the Canucks did not move any more of their pending unrestricted free agents (UFA) on deadline day.

I was a little surprised by how quiet the Canucks were on Friday, but alas, general manager (GM) Patrik Allvin will now need to wait until the offseason to make more much-needed changes to this current group.

Game Preview:

Vancouver Canucks (24-32-5) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (38-16-8)

The Canucks are now gearing up for what is expected to be a tough contest against the Maple Leafs. At the time of this writing, Toronto is currently the fourth-best team in the Eastern Conference and sports an even deeper roster after adding players like old friend Luke Schenn, Ryan O'Reilly, Jake McCabe, Noel Acciari, and Sam Lafferty. Therefore, they are understandably favored to win this matchup against the struggling Canucks.

The Canucks and Maple Leafs played each other once this season, where Toronto would win by a 3-2 final score. As a result, the Canucks will now be aiming to get their revenge and collect two points. Nevertheless, we will need to wait and see how this contest goes for the underdog Canucks from here.

Update: The Canucks defeated the Maple Leafs by a 4-1 final score. Thatcher Demko was the star of the night, saving 36 out of 37 shots.
