Throughout the season, we will check in on the Toronto Maple Leafs prospects to see how they are progressing. In spite of trading out of the first round to rid themselves of the albatross contract of Petr Mrazek, GM Kyle Dubas appears to have found some young players who could have some future potential of making the NHL.

Here is how the five players who were selected in the 2022 Draft are doing:

Fraser Minten

After missing most of training camp with a wrist injury, the 38th overall pick returned to the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers and has exceeded his 2022 goal total in half a season. In 35 games, Minten is third in goals behind WJC standout Logan Stankoven and overager Daylan Kuefler with 23 and has 45 points in 35 games.

The Blazers are hosting the Memorial Cup next spring, and could be a sleeper after adding defenseman Olen Zellweger. The 18-year-old should benefit from the experience this spring and could be a candidate for the 2024 World Junior squad.

Nicholas Moldenhauer

The Mississauga native has continued his productive offensive campaign with the Chicago Steel, ranked fifth in USHL with 42 points (16 goals and 26 assists) in 32 games. Moldenhauer committed to the University of Michigan for next season and at this point, looks like a steal for the Leafs at #95 overall.

Dennis Hildeby

The big 21-year-old started to get more work in January as the backup for veteran Matt Tomkins. Hildeby has an 8-6-0 record with Farjestads, with a 2.20 GAA and .921 save percentage.

Nikita Grebyonkin

As with other KHL prospect Artur Akhtyamov, Grebyonkin has benefited from being loaned to another club. After scoring in brief stints in the lower levels for Magnitogorsk, the winger went scoreless in a limited role in seven KHL games and was loaned to Amur Khabarovsk. Since the 19-year-old has been one of the highest scoring rookies in the KHL, with 22 points (8 goals, 14 assists) in 38 games.

Brandon Lisowsky

The 5’9” 170 lb. left winger made a good impression at training camp and is second in goals (25) and third in scoring (47) for the WHL’ Saskatoon Blades.
