Game Summary:

That was Hellberg’s first shootout, and it showed. It was a knockout punch to a Detroit team that needed to show up for 60 minutes and make a statement.

If you stayed up to watch this, it wasn’t worth it. Detroit was out-goalied. Fine play in the first 2 periods. Good start, by the end of 2 Detroit was up 30 shots to 11 and the score was tied. Another race to 4 for the opposition (though technically will only show 3 against due to shootout).

No, it’s not the end of the world. It was just awful. You could probably use this ending to prep for a colonoscopy. Detroit should be embarrassed for themselves and their fans. Yes it’s a rebuild, yes, there was some good play. But if you outshoot the opposition that badly and then let it all go to hades in the third, the OT and the shootout you still get to lose.

This team should feel awful about what they just put on the ice at the end. Arizona had lost 9 straight. If the Wings aren’t embarrassed by this, it would be a disappointment. LaLonde will get on the mic and talk about out shooting, out chancing, and then losing.

Having to watch what this team delivers, or doesn’t deliver, is gut wrenching. Stop making excuses. “We went out there and should have won this. We didn’t and every last person needs to look in the mirror and decide what happens next. Regardless of the narrative, it’s a consolation point loss against a horrible team. And now the wrong side of the scoreboard reads at least 4 for the 7th time in 8 games.

Keeping in mind that this is “in the moment” frustration, but nothing is going to make this outcome look or feel any better. It’s as bad as it can be. I wish there was a silver lining on this one, I really do. Yesterday’s embarrassment in Colorado should have been enough motivation to go in and make something happen.

The narrative is as tired as the fan base is right now. Until you can show up and not have the kind of lapses that see the worst teams in the NHL making you look awful, the L is getting earned
