Jets Look To Continue Winning Way Against Ducks

The Winnipeg Jets are currently ninth in NHL standings, and second in the Central division. A win against the struggling Anaheim Ducks will propel them into the top of their division, and tied for fifth in the league.

The Jets are coming off a nail-biting overtime win against the Seattle Kraken, where Pierre-Luc Dubois drew a penalty in the final minute, and Blake Wheeler scored the game-tying goal with just 3.9 seconds remaining. The Jets will look to extend their winning ways against the Ducks tonight, and on paper, the Jets should absolutely win.

The Ducks currently sit last in the NHL, and have yet to earn a regulation win. The Jets, with a record of 9-4-1, have had some really balanced offense, and impeccable goaltending leading their ways to victory. While the Jets are a bottom-eight team in terms of goals for, they are first in goals against, with only 33 goals allowed in their 14 games.

Obviously, Connor Hellebuyck has been a huge part of that. Hellebuyck currently has a 7-3-1 record, with a .935 SV% and 2.08 GAA. He looks like a Vezina worthy goaltender again, and the results are showing. The defense, while individually haven't looked perfect, has been working well under the Rick Bowness system. There was a bit of a hiccup at the start of the season where it looked like nothing had changed, but now that Bowness has spent some quality time behind the bench after his battle with COVID, things are looking good for the Jets.

As I mentioned, the offense is as high as it could be, but they are winning games. Josh Morrissey continues to lead the team in points with 1 goal, 14 assists for 15 points. Kyle Connor is still snake-bitten with just two goals, and Ehlers is starting to make his way back on the ice and into the lineup.

Unfortunately, Mason Appleton was injured against the Kraken and is expected to miss 8-12 weeks. He was filling in for Ehlers on the top line, and now that he is out, and it doesn't look like Ehlers will play tonight, who should fill in there?

Mikey Eyssimont will play, and Harkins is expected to be a scratch, but Sam Gagner looks to be the one that will play alongside Scheifele and Connor. I think that is fine. Those two have been producing well, and Gagner adds more of an offense touch than Appleton.

I hope to have a post-game piece for tomorrow morning, and if there are any updates throughout the day I will be sure to put them in here, but for now, let me know your thoughts on how the Jets should fair out against the Ducks, and what the Jets should do with the top RW spot.
