My Takeaways:

Third Period Comeback - Similar to the game against Vancouver last week, the Caps found themselves down two-goals heading into the third period. The Caps were playing a solid game for the most part but had not solved Jonathan Quick up until the third. The third period comeback was fun to see and this team has tons of experience. You know they will battle back to their best ability. Here is a quote from Darcy Kuemper as posted by Samantha Pell:

The reality is that the percentage chance that a team comes back from down two-goals in the third to is fairly rare. The Capitals scored four goals in the third period against Los Angeles, their second four-goal third period of the season. The Capitals have scored eight goals in the third period this season, which ranks tied for second in the NHL. -CapitalsPR. Sure, this stuff happens…but not a lot. The Caps are fortunate to have won these two recent games when trailing by 2-goals in the third. If they don't come back in those games, we are looking at a 1-5 squad. Is that a harsh reality of this team?

Orlov - Is it just me, or is Dmitry Orlov simply amazing? The guy is a standup defender who can also shoot and dish the puck. He has really developed into a phenomenal all-around defenseman. Last night, Orlov had 3A and he kept up what has been overall some stellar hockey lately. While it hasn't exactly appeared on the box score, I have noticed Orlov has been passing the puck extremely well this season. Specifically, passing into chances that are either medium/high danger. He is seeing the ice really well. His +/- and goes against on 5v5 is one of the highest on the team but it is also a cultivation of other flaws on this squad.

State of the Team - The reality is that this roster is injured and beaten up. Missing key guys throughout the lineup as already presented its headaches for the consistency in offense and defensive production. The Caps will need to continue to keep fighting for points as the division is already shaping up to be STACKED once again this year. The Caps now begin a 4-game road trip @ NJD, DAL, NSH, and CAR. Anything less than 2-2 is disaster and the sky will officially be falling. Jk but seriously.

Next up, the Capitals play in New Jersey on Monday 10/24 @7pm . The games against New Jersey are typically great games.

LETS GO CAPS..

PS Every time Ovechkin doesn't score, I cry inside.
