Preseason Game 4, Schwindt Signed

The Panthers are set to take on the Hurricanes in the dreaded afternoon game (1PM ET) in Carolina today.

Florida put out a strong lineup on Thursday against the Canes, but dropped the ball heartedly in a 5-2 loss. I know it’s only preseason, but it seems the mighty Cats are mightily out of sorts in these games.

Special teams seems to be an issue (again) thus far. The Canes scored twice on the man advantage and then netted the ever-frustrating shorthanded goal. On the opposite side of the ice, the Panthers went 0-5 on the PP. Completely unacceptable. If you can’t find the back of the net with Thursday’s roster, against a weaker opposing lineup, and in preseason action…you’ve got problems.

I was hoping the horrendous malfunctions of the PP from last year’s playoffs would be worked out, but for now it seems that’s not the case…

While they work to iron out the kinks on the ice, hopefully they can at least fix the streaming issues so that the game can be watched today.

Lose A Schwindt, Gain A Schwindt

After losing Cole Schwindt in the deal for Matthew Tkachuk, the Panthers have signed his brother, Kai, to an ELC.

Per the Panthers’ website :

“Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito announced today that forward Kai Schwindt has agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract. Additionally, Schwindt has been returned to his junior club, the Mississauga Steelheads of the Ontario Hockey League.

‘Kai is a competitive, high-effort individual who is able to use his size and skill effectively,’ said Zito. ‘We're excited to welcome him and watch his continued development within our Panthers organization.’

Schwindt, 18, skated in 68 Ontario Hockey league (OHL) games with the Mississauga Steelheads in 2021-22, recording 12 goals and five assists for a total of 17 points. He notched two assists in nine games in the postseason with the Steelheads.

Undrafted, the 6-foot-4, 193-pound native of Kitchener, Ont., attended the Florida Panthers 2022-23 Training Camp, scoring a goal in Florida's opening preseason contest against the Nashville Predators on Sept. 26.”
