Rumors a Plenty. On Chychrun, Sandin, Robertson and Spencer Knight. HBSL!

There appears to be a little doubt right now that the Arizona Coyotes are more than willing to move Jakob Chychrun before the season starts. One source told me today that he believes the price is starting to come down and that Chychrun’s comments in the press recently that he is very open to a move and doesn’t want to be around for a long rebuild feels a bit targeted.

Often teams who aren’t getting what they want or who aren’t getting a lot of calls on a player will start to make sure the local media knows this one way or the other. In the past, the problem moving Jacob Chychrun has been the astronomical price tag placed on him by the coyotes. I’m starting to hear rumblings that that price might be coming down.

“There is definite fear that his subpar season last year potentially puts them in a very vulnerable position should that subpar play continue into this year,” a source texted me today.

Teams interested, at this point, are the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Montréal Canadiens, the Buffalo Sabres, or the Florida Panthers, the St. Louis blues, the New York Rangers, the Boston Bruins, and the New York Islanders. Yes that is a lot and I’m sure many more are considering it.

I have also heard some consideration given to a possible Philadelphia Flyers trade, that would send Chychrun back to the city he lived in when his father played there. I believe that would have to be an in the season trade and would probably also require some of the flyers young talent to show what they’re worth prior to making a deal.

On Sandin…

All indications are that this deal is going to get done soon. Likely today..I am hearing a one-year deal is the most likely scenario just get Rasmus into camp so he can prove his worth this season and demand more. Good idea for either side? Not sure.. Toronto is such a tough team for players heading into contract years. I would really try to get a two-year deal done here, just so Sandin can play without every shift being analyzed. Next summer will be all about Matthews and there will not be a chance to get management’s attention at the level held currently.

On Jason Robertson…

As of this morning at least this is not looking good. There were some rumors this weekend that Robertson might be coming in on an eight year eight per deal. While there’s not a lot of information about this out there, one source close the situation tells me that that contract may have been something Robertson would have taken a while ago, but not likely now. But again, that’s only one person’s opinion and the closer we get to camp ending, the season beginning, everything can change. As I wrote before, there are a few teams who have considered an offer sheet…. Although at this point it appears that consideration was all that was given to that for now. There are no teams actively pursuing this course of action.

On the Spencer Knight Signing…

Panthers today extended Spencer Knight for three years at 4.5 million per year. The Panthers absolutely love Knight and this contract makes that very clear. This contract means that starting next year the Panthers will have two goalies making a combined 14.5 Million per year for three years… That would be the most any team has ever paid for a goaltending tandem. However, there is every chance that something is going to give before that ….this signing feels like part one of a bigger plan…
