Islanders sign Nikita Soshnikov, Parker Wotherspoon and Cory Schneider

The New York Islanders announced yesterday that they’ve signed forward Nikita Soshnikov, defenseman Parker Wotherspoon and goalie Cory Schneider. Each deal is for one year and carries a $750,000 cap hit.

Soshnikov is 28 years old and has spent the last three years in the KHL, scoring four goals and 16 points in 33 games this past season. He previously played 87 NHL games between stints with the Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues.

Wotherspoon is 25 years old and has spent the last five seasons with Bridgeport in the AHL. This past season, the defenseman had three goals and 24 points in 57 games.

Schneider is 36 years old and also spent last season with Bridgeport, posting a .921 save percentage in 30 AHL games. He also started a single game for the Islanders last season, making 27 saves on route to a win over the New Jersey Devils.
