Hey everyone,

Been a hectic week so I'm going to keep this brief for now but will likely update it later. According to Oilers reporter, Daniel Nugent Bowman, the Edmonton Oilers have signed 34 year old right shot defenseman Jason Demers to a PTO. Demers spent last season in the KHL but prior to that spent a few years with the Coyotes where he took heavier minutes as a shutdown defenseman. Demers is a rugged, more physical player who transitions the puck quite well; at least he did while he was more in his prime.

Demers is an interesting option for the Oilers as he could be a perfect third pairing defender to play a more defensive game alongside the young Philip Broberg. If Demers can show he can still play that style of game than he would likely be a far better fit and fill a better need for the team than Tyson Barrie. With Demers and Ryan Murray in the mix the Oilers have added some more size and physicality to go along with their more offensive minded players in Nurse and Bouchard. Demers will be a player to keep an eye on in camp.

There are also some reports the Oilers have looked at Brett Ritchie as a PTO option but that remains unconfirmed.

I'll update more later.
