The Los Angeles Kings have signed defenseman Mikey Anderson to a one-year contract extension, worth $1 million.

Anderson is just 23 years old but has already become a key fixture on the Kings’ blue line. This past season, the defenseman managed eight points in 57 games, averaging about 20 minutes per game in ice time. Anderson will be a restricted free agent when the deal expires.

Given how cheap the one-year deal is for Anderson, it seems like it may have been a bit of a missed opportunity to get a slightly longer bridge deal in place at a reasonable price. Anderson is set to be an important part of the defense group for the foreseeable future.

That said, the Kings are pressed close to the cap right now and you also can’t complain about getting a key defenseman locked up for $1 million, even if only for a year.
