The Anaheim Ducks will have six prospects competing at this year’s World Junior Championship tournament, which started today.
Representing Canada will be Mason McTavish, Olen Zellweger and Nathan Gaucher. McTavish (3rd) and Zellweger (34th) were both selected in the 2021 NHL Draft, while Gaucher was the 22nd overall pick in this year’s draft.
All three players spent the year in the CHL, each playing in a different league. McTavish captured an OHL championship with the Hamilton Bulldogs and will be Canada’s captain for the tournament.
A pair of third-round picks in Ian Moore and Sasha Pastujov will suit up for the United States. Moore was selected 67th by the Ducks in 2020 and the defenseman spent the year with Harvard University. Pastujov was taken 66th by the Ducks in last year’s draft and the forward scored an impressive 34 goals and 76 points in 65 games with the OHL’s Guelph Storm this season.
Calle Clang will be the only Ducks’ prospect representing Sweden. The netminder was selected 77th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2020 and was acquired by the Ducks at the trade deadline as part of the Rickard Rakell trade.
