The Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed forward Martin Necas to a two-year contract, which carries a $3 million cap hit.

Necas is 23 years old and this past season, he scored 14 goals and 40 points in 78 games. The winger has scored a total of 45 goals and 119 points in 203 career NHL games with the Hurricanes. He’ll remain a restricted free agent when the contract expires.

While he took a bit of a step back this season, Necas has high-end offensive upside and is only a year removed from scoring at a pace of 63 points per 82. He has a great blend of speed and agility along with strong playmaking ability and a dangerous shot. If he can put it all together, he could become a legitimate top forward for Carolina.

I’ll go more in-depth on the deal later on but as a quick note, this is a solid contract for the Hurricanes. A two-year bridge deal doesn’t come as much of a surprise but the $3 million price tag is possibly a little bit cheaper than expected.
