Emil Bemstrom and the Columbus Blue Jackets have agreed to a two-year contact extension through the 2023-2024 NHL season, with an average annual cap hit of $900K.

Bemstrom, 23, is a 4th round draft selection from the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, going 117th overall. Bemstrom is one of 5 picks that have played in the NHL draft picked by Columbus general manager Jarmo Kekalainen:

1. Alexandre Texier
2. Daniil Tarasov
3. Bemstrom
4. Jonathan Davidsson (OTT)
5. Carson Meyer

The Swede has had 36 points in 117 career NHL regular season games, accumulating 19 goals, 17 asssits, and a -9 rating with 12 penalty minutes. In 5 playoff games, Bemstrom has been held off the scoreboard.

Bemstrom has been a depth forward in the jackets’ system, between the veterans of Oliver Bjorkstrand (SEA) and Cam Atkinson (PHI) to the recent adds of Kirill Marchenko and Cole Sillinger.

Bemstrom is projected to be the 12th or 13th forward on the Blue Jackets; however, his injury history may be a concern. Having never played a full season due to offeseason surgery and COVID-19, the full 82 game schedule has never been completed by Bemmer.

Thoughts on the deal? More to come…
