As expected Bill Guerin has not been active through the early stages of free agency and for good measure. Yes, he did clear some cap space with the Cam Tolbot trade, but is there really that player out there on the market that upgrades the Wild at the right price?

I initially thought possibly Dylan Strome, but Washington scooped him up at $3.5M for next season, a little overpriced on the surface.

Sometimes the best mives are the ones you do not make. Guerin is living that and sticking to his plan yo make the Wild a competative team within a budget.

The opportunity is first going to the players in house, namely Marco Rossi and Tyson Jost.

Jost has a lot more to give than what we saw when he was brought in from Colorado at the deadline. He was relegated to third and fourth line minutes, but make no mistake he will be afforded every opportunity to crack the top six when camp opens.

Rossi will also be expected to contribute at the NHL level this upcoming season. Of course Rossi is projected to be a first or second line center for the Wild for many years to come, and 2022-23 will be his opportunity.

Some former Wild personnel making noise as Brad Hunt signs with Colorado, Jordie Benn with the Leafs, Ian Cole to Tampa, Nic Deslauriers to the Flyers, and Stanley Cup winning goalie, Darcy Kuemper signs a big deal in Washington. Other former Wild players on move Brent Burns was dealt to Carolina, while Erik Haula was traded to New Jersey. Former Wild GM, Chuck Fletcher is still making risky draft pick trades as he shipped three Flyer draft picks to the Hurricanes for Tony DeAngelo, not to mention the Deslauriers contract is for four years...Yikes!

Moral to the story, Guerin is working the plan and the Wild have stockpiled some serious organizational prospect talent. Guerin still has some time, but don't expect anything major unless something falls into his lap that fits the plan.
