Without their first-round pick, a pick sent to the Anaheim Ducks at the trade deadline to acquire defenseman Hampus Lindholm, the Bruins made six picks in total at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft in Montreal.

Round 2, Pick 54: Matthew Poitras|Center|OHL|

“I’m kind of a versatile player. Bit of a mix of skill and greasiness I’m a bit of a smaller guy," Poitras said. "I kind of pride myself on the ability to win stick battles and possess the puck. I’m more of an offensive, skilled, gritty guy.”

Round 4, Pick 117: Cole Spicer|Center|NTDP|

“I was pretty stoked. I’m back home so I had a bunch of friends and family over and it was just an awesome experience here," Spicer said. "Hearing my name called, especially by such a great, winning organization. So, I’m super pumped and can’t wait to get out to Boston and meet everyone."

Round 4, Pick 119: Dans Locmelis|Center|Sweden-Jr|

Round 5, Pick 132: Frederic Brunet|Defense|QMJHL|

“I’m trying to work on my defense a lot. I have worked a lot this year with my defensive coach and my coaches to work on being a bit more reliable and two-way on the ice," Brunet said. "Especially on pucks on the outside, in one-on-one battles. Maybe being tougher, a good thing, but I’m working on it and I think I’ve come a long way with this."

Round 6, Pick 183: Reid Dyck|Goalie|WHL|

“I really enjoy watching Andre Vasilevskiy. He plays very athletic, and I feel like that’s one of my biggest strengths, athletic ability," Dyck said "So, I feel we play similar that way and he’s such a great skater and he’s obviously one of the best in the world, so I really try to play like him."

Round 7, Pick 200: Jackson Edward|Defense|OHL|

“I liked [Zdeno] Chara when I was really younger, and as I got to watch them, [Brad] Marchand became one of my favorite players," Edward said. "I liked them when they won the Cup back in 2011 and I’ve kind of stuck with them since.”

Sweeney taking a center with his first pick was no surprise, going with three straight picks of centers was. It's a clear sign that Sweeney knows as of now, post-Bergeron, the Bruins have no depth in place. Hopefully, this Bruins draft class is a step in the right direction.

“Well, certainly depth in the middle of the ice, and creativity," Sweeney said about what the Bruins added in their first three picks. "A lot of growth potential in all three of those players. The centers are definitely an area that we needed to target, and I can’t tell you that all three of those guys are going to play in the National Hockey League — I certainly hope so, because I think they’re all very talented and have special skills offensively.”

While addressing their need in the first round would have been ideal, I'm happy to see Sweeney took three swings at finding a top-six center of the future, one they so desperately need.

Speaking of centers...

Sweeney on Bergeron:

"As I said, he’s going through rehab, he’s back training. He indicated in a positive manor. Patrice should be the one to make that statement if he decides to. He’s made real good indications to us that he’s trying to do it in the right manor, but until he makes a decision, we’ll wait.”

Sweeney expects to have a concrete answer from Bergeron prior to the start of free agency on Wednesday.

Sweeney on Krejci:

"David is a little more of a wait and see where communication lies. Where Patrice is just a cut and dry decision. Won’t be an issue with the contract I believe. Krech is just deciding what’s best for him, but there’s no positive indication. It just hasn’t gotten to the point where I’m comfortable to say if it’s going to happen.”

Sweeney also revealed that he expects both Chris Kelly and Joe Sacco to return as assistant coaches next season.

The Bruins will introduce new head coach Jim Montgomery to the media next week.
