1) The Flyers have added veteran coach Brad Shaw as an associate coach under new head coach John Tortorella, per a Vancouver Canucks press release that acknowledges Shaw's departure from Vancouver and the hiring of former Flyers assistant/ interim head coach Mike Yeo as his replacement on the Canucks' coaching staff.

Shaw, 58, will likely coach the Flyers defense and penalty kill; the role he has performed for most of his 17-plus year NHL coaching career. Before going to Vancouver this past season, Shaw spent five season as a Columbus Blue Jackets assistant coach under Tortorella. Previously, the former NHL defenseman served as an assistant coach with the St. Louis Blues for nine seasons. Shaw originally broke into the NHL coaching ranks with the New York Islanders in 2005-06 and spent roughly half of the season as the team's interim head coach.

Shaw had a 377-game NHL playing career with the Hartford Whalers, Ottawa Senators, Washington Capitals and Blues. He dressed in 81 of 82 games for the Senators during their inaugural 1992-93 season.

2) On Friday afternoon, Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher issued a brief statement regarding the Russian media reports that have surfaced of goaltending prospect Ivan Fedotov being detained in St. Petersburg under allegations of dodging the draft amid Vladimir Putin's mass conscription drive for males up to age 40.

"We're aware of the reports and are investigating the situation. We have no further comment at this time," Fletcher said.

3) My 2022 Entry Draft preview is now online at PhiladelphiaFlyers.com: 2022 Entry Draft: Candidates for No. 5.

4) As we count down to the days to first round of the 2022 Draft on July 7, Flyers Daily is featuring a series of interviews conducted by Jason Myrtetus and me with various Flyers scouts and hockey operations higher-up. First up is Flyers European scouting director Joakim Grundberg.

5) Happy Canada Day to all HockeyBuzz readers north of the border. A couple years ago, I wrote a Canada Day-tied piece about Flyers ties to the various Canadian provinces: Canada Day: A Flyers Celebration.
