Mysak Sends the Bulldogs to the Memorial Cup Final |

Jan Mysak has not been much of a factor in this Memorial Cup tournament, until yesterday that is. The Habs’ 2nd round pick in 2020 was held off the scoresheet during the Bulldogs’ first 3 games, but yesterday, he had clearly decided that enough was enough. He put his stamp on the game by winning 13 of his 19 faceoffs and taking 8 shots on goal, only 1 of those went it, but it was the overtime game winner and the Habs’ prospect was named the 1st star of the game. In his defense, it should be noted that Mysak is playing injured having separated his shoulder in the second round of the OHL playoffs, hurting it again in the last round against Windsor and twice more during the present tournament.
Meanwhile, Arber Xhekaj also had himself a good game, finishing his day of work with an assist and a +3 rating. In 4 games thus far, he’s got 4 assists and is +2 while also applying more than his fair share of bone crushing hits. Following this 4-3 overtime win over the Shawinigan Cataractes, the Bulldogs will be taking on the Saint-John’s Sean Dog in the final tomorrow at 6:00 PM.
In Habs’ news, after Luke Richardson was officially appointed as the Blackhawks head coach yesterday, numerous insiders report that Sean Burke will be next to abandon ship to join the Vegas Golden Knights’ staff as Director of goaltending the very same position he’s been assuming with the Habs since March 2021. He had first joined the Canadiens in 2016 as a professional scout for the Western region.
Jan Mysak n’a pas vraiment été un facteur d’impact lors du tournoi de la Coupe Memorial, jusqu’au match d’hier du moins. Un choix de 2e ronde du CH en 2020, il avait été blanchi de la feuille de pointage pendant les 3 premiers matchs des Bulldogs, mais hier, il avait clairement décidé que cela suffisait et qu’il était temps de s’illustrer. Il a connu un bon match, remportant 13 de ses 19 mises en jeu et dirigeant 8 tirs au filet, un seul d’entre eux s’est frayé un chemin dans le filet, mais ce fut le but gagnant en prolongation et il fut nommé la première étoile de la rencontre. À sa décharge, il faut noter que Mysak avait subi une séparation de l’épaule en 2e ronde des séries de la OHL et se blessant de nouveau dans la finale du circuit et 2 fois de plus pendant le présent tournoi.
Pendant ce temps, Arber Xhekaj a connu un bon match, terminant sa soirée de travail avec une passe et une fiche de +3. En 4 matchs, il a récolté 4 passes et conserve un dossier de +2 tout en distribuant plus que sa part de mises en échec retentissante. Suite à cette victoire de 4-3 en prolongation contre les Cataractes de Shawinigan, les Bulldogs affronteront les hôtes du tournoi, les Sea Dogs, demain soir à 6 :00 PM.
Côté Habs, après l’annonce officielle de l’embauche de Luke Richardson à titre d’entraineur chef des Blackhawks de Chicago, plusieurs sources affirment que Sean Burke sera le prochain à quitter le navire. En effet, il se joindrait aux Golden Knights de Las Vegas à titre de directeur des gardiens, le même poste qu’il occupait avec le CH depuis mars 2021. Il s’était joint à l’organisation à titre de dépisteur professionnel affecté à l’ouest en 2016.
