Player Profile: 2022 King Clancy Nominee Jack Roslovic
Jack Roslovic is the Columbus nomination for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, joining 31 other nominees. According to the definition of the Trophy by the National Hockey League, the Trophy is “presented to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”
The nominees were selected by their respective NHL teams. The winner will be chosen by a committee of senior NHL executives led by Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly.
Roslovic joins former CBJ players including F Nick Foligno (BOS) and D Nick Holden (OTT); additionally, he joins Ohio natives Alex Nedeljkovic (DET) and Connor Murphy (CHI).
The Columbus kid was a first round draft selection of the Winnipeg Jets in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He joined fellow teammate Patrik Laine in a blockbuster trade that sent Pierre-Luc Dubois and a 2022 3rd Round Draft Selection.
Jack Roslovic had a career year with the Blue Jackets, having 45 points in 81 games this season. Roslovic had 22 goals and 23 assists with a +2 rating and 12 penalty minutes. In his career year with the Jackets, he had become the club’s number one center with the absence of captain Boone Jenner’s injury. After a bumpy start on the fourth line, his time increased with more time knowing new head coach Brad Larsen.
During the offseason and regular season, he spent time in multiple events from Rosie’s Gears for Goals; 614 Hockey; the Jack Roslovic Collection; Seeds of Caring; and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
In addition to his chairty work, Roslovic also had a season opening meeting at the NHL Headquarters with Gary Bettman; and teammates Sean Kuraly and Cole Sillinger about hockey in Ohio and playing for the hometown.
“ The winner will receive a $25,000 donation to benefit a charity or charities of the winner’s choice; the second and third place finalists receive a $5,000 donation to benefit a charity or charities of their choosing.” This is also per the NHL description of the finalists.
What are your thoughts on Jack Roslovic the player, and Jack Roslovic, the hometown charitable person?
