The Carolina Hurricanes eliminated the Boston Bruins with a 3-2 win in Game 7 today, advancing to the second round.

It was a pretty even opening frame with good chances exchanged, including a 3-on-1 from the Bruins, resulting in a huge save by Antti Raanta. Then with only a little over a minute left, Jaccob Slavin found Max Domi with a great pass and Domi slid it to Teuvo Teravainen in front, who finished it off to give Carolina a lead just before the intermission.

Despite the Hurricanes not capitalizing on a four-minute power play, Max Domi managed to extend the lead for Carolina only three minutes into the period, tucking a loose puck from a point shot into the open net. However, Jake DeBrusk cut the lead in half under two minutes later, taking a pass in front and redirecting it past Raanta. Domi continued his outstanding game though and midway through the frame, he one-timed a nice pass from Teravainen past Jeremy Swayman, extending it to a two-goal lead once again.

The Hurricanes did a pretty good job limiting chances for the Bruins through a lot of the period and didn’t let them sustain a ton of zone time. David Pastrnak did make it interesting with 21 seconds left, scoring on a one-timer to pull the game to within a single goal and the Bruins had a stretch of zone time in the dying seconds after that, but the Hurricanes hung on for a 3-2 win.

It was a close game but Carolina was able to build a lead and did a relatively good job limiting quality chances for the Bruins throughout the game. That said, Antti Raanta made some important saves when needed, capping off a great series in net.

Once again, Carolina stayed disciplined as well, only surrendering one power play opportunity to the Bruins. Then also – what a game from Max Domi, getting in on every one of Carolina’s goals with two goals and an assist.

It was a hard-fought, even series between the two teams, with Carolina picking up the well-earned series win. It’ll now come down to Game 7 between the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins tomorrow to determine who the Hurricanes will face in the second round. Regardless, the Hurricanes are moving on to the next round.
