Devils Take Down Yotes 6-2, Success So Far On Road Trip

The Utica Comets are having profound impact on the New Jersey Devils.

Fabian Zetterland and Kevin Bahl had one goal a piece, both of them NHL firsts, and got things started for the Devils offensively after being down 1-0 to the Coyotes. Devils goaltender Nico Daws was able to allow only 2 goals as the Devils continue to impress with a 6-2 victory and now riding a two game winning streak.

I know what you’re saying. It is only the lowly Arizona Coyotes but the Devils did beat the Dallas Stars a game earlier on this five game western road trip. The Devils could have easily mailed it in during this lame duck portion of their season, but players like Nico Hischier, Yegor Sharangovich, and Jesper Bratt continue to play well despite the Devils losing Jack Hughes, Miles Wood, Jimmy Vesey to injuries.

Sharangovich, who had two goals, has bounced back nicely after a slow start to the season and now has 22 goals on the season. The best thing about it is he is doing it without relying on Jack Hughes and has been able to finish and put the puck on net. Also, Hischier’s three point night gives him a total of 5 points in two games on this road trip.

The Devils have had trouble on the road this season with a 10-24-2 record. They have a chance to go above .500 on this road trip but still have tough games against the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche, who are looking to get revenge after blowing a 3-0 to the Devils at the Rock and losing that game when the Devils scored 5 unanswered goals. The best bet for the Devils is when they meet the Seattle Kraken on Saturday night.

The Utica Comets winning ways are rubbing off on the Devils. With the Comets in the AHL playoffs, this maybe a turning point in the Devils long rebuild when the process started dating back nearly a decade ago.
