Guelph line nets 2 in 2nd period
Post game summary - you don’t often get 4 goals on 23 shots. Greiss only gave up 2 on 34 shots and the combination was just was the doctor ordered for a 2nd straight win over the Flyers.
It stands out that the Guelph unit scored again, Zadina was rewarded for his efforts. Seider made a picture perfect top corner shot (another goal from the “untouchables”) and Rasmussen gets an empty net. Good things are happening, but what hits me the most is this Guelph configuration. What a pleasant surprise.
First period Wings’ goals:
The passing and on ice awareness of the Guelph line is just an added bit of excitement that I didn’t expect. With Bert and Larkin going so strong together, I did not want to break them up. This line is working, and Bertuzzi now has 42 points in 41 games.
Second Period Wings’ goals:
Hockey is a game of inches (or less). So many nights it feels like Zadina is just on the wrong side of that small differential. His shot was a beauty, and I love to see this kid get rewarded. Larkin keeps adding to his point totals as well. I believe in the Captain, I think he continues to grow and look like the lead dog on this team (been watching “life below zero”)
3rd Period Wings’ goals:
Seider’s goal was my favorite of the game. It was like something out of a training video. His posture, his release, and that perfect hit in the corner. I think I’d pegged him for 7 goals and he can easily pass that (this was 5). Again, assisted by Larkin and Raymond. These three, if healthy, are a big piece of the forward motion of this rebuild.
Rasmussen’s empty net was one of those “atta boy” goals for me. He has worked his way into a steady bottom 6 role, completely changed Yzerman’s original thoughts on him, and he always looks slightly angry when he scores. For some reason, I love that. Well done to the big man, nice assist from Larkin.
