Game 43 Preview: Flyers @ Islanders

Winless in their last 12 games, interim head coach Mike Yeo's Philadelphia Flyers (13-21-8) are on the road on Tuesday to take on Barry Trotz's New York Islanders (14-14-6) at UBS Arena in Elmont, NY. Game time is 7:30 p.m. ET (NBCSP, 97.5 The Fanatic).

This is the third of four meetings between the Metro Division teams this season and the second and final one in Elmont. The season series will conclude on March 20 at the Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers are 0-1-1 against the Islanders this season.

The Flyers enter this game -- the team's sixth in the last nine nights -- coming off a 3-1 loss to the Dallas Stars at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday.

The game was tied at 1-1 entering the third period and play was more or less even through the first 40 minutes. Nonetheless, there was still the foreboding sense that the Flyers would be the one to get beaten in crunch time. That's how it played out yet again. With the loss, the Flyers dropped to 2-19-3 in games where they yield the first a goal: a reflection not only on lack of ability to see through comeback bids but also of the team having to chase games far too frequently in the first place.

Since sweeping a home-and-home against the Flyers early last week, the Islanders have gone 1-1. They shut out Arizona, 4-0, but dropped a 3-1 decision to Toronto.

With Carter Hart having started last Tuesday and Thursday, going 42 minutes in relief of Martin Jones on Saturday in Buffalo and then starting against Dallas on Monday, look for Jones to get the start against the Islanders. Jones struggled in his brief outing against the Sabres, lasting 18 minutes and yielding four goals on eight shots. At least one of the goals looked stoppable.

The Flyers will not hold a morning skate on Tuesday. The Philadelphia lineup will be posted later in the day. For an in-depth preview of the game, see Five Things on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com.
