Game 42 Preview: Flyers vs. Stars

ike Yeo's Philadelphia Flyers (13-20-8) are home on Monday to take on Rick Bowness's Dallas Stars (20-16-2). Game time is 7:00 p.m. ET. (NBCSP, 93.3 WMMR). The Flyers will look to end an 11-game winless streak (0-8-3) that dates back to Dec. 30. This match marks the statistical start of the second half of the 2021-22 season for the Flyers.

The Stars have back-to-back games (albeit in less-than-artistic fashion) heading into Philadelphia. Dallas is presently three points (two standings points plus a tiebreaker disadvantage) below the wildcard cutoff in the Western Conference playoff chase.

The Flyers are expected to make one or to callups from the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms to fill out their injury-depleted lineup. The team only had nine forwards on the ice for practice on Monday. Yeo said the club may also have to dress seven defensemen for Monday's game.

This game will mark the 964 consecutive NHL regular game started by Keith Yandle. The Flyers defenseman will tie the NHL's all-time ironman record previously set by Doug Jarvis. Yandle can set a new record on Tuesday against the Islanders.

For a detailed preview of tonight's game, see today's "Five Things" feature on the Flyers' official website (which will go live by 10:30 a.m. ET). Projected lineups will be posted later today.

On Monday's edition of Flyers Daily, Jason Myrtetus and I did a deep dive on the laundry list of issues that have plagued the Flyers this season. We also discuss what may be the next steps to come. Later this week, Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher will be holding media availability to discuss the state of the team. On the podcast, Jason and I speculated on what we think will be the main points that Fletcher discusses in addition to updating the injury statuses of Ryan Ellis, Sean Couturier and Kevin Hayes (hopefully with more concrete information about exactly what's going on, especially with Ellis and Couturier). To listen, click here.

On Monday morning, the recalled Linus Sandin, Connor Bunnaman and Felix Sandström to the Taxi Squad from the Phantoms. None will play in this game after the Phantoms played on back-to-back days on Saturday and Sunday per Yeo.
