Boldy Bolstering the Wild Offense

11 goals scored with the Wild goalie pulled through 35 games is simply remarkable. Dean Evason and the Wild analytics team have put together quite an improbable storyline with the number of third period comebacks that have allowed the Wild to gain points in games that seemed out of reach.

That was once again the case yesterday as Kirill Kaprizov was the one netting the tying marker before the Wild lost the extra point in the shootout.

Yesterday showed a lot of character from the Wild as they outplayed the Avalanche for large stretches of the contest and had chances to win the game despite their shorthanded roster. These are great signs that the Wild have closed the gap with the Avalanche that over the last year and half had seemed to be fairly significant.

Matt Boldy continues to impress and now has goals and two assists in his four NHL games. He is playing with a ton of confidence and his on ice vision and hockey sense is just what the doctor ordered to complement Kevin Fiala Boldy appears to be here for the long haul now and once the Wild roster is healthy look out because thw Wild now have two units that can bring it.

Their "checking" line when healthy is as good offensively as they are at thwarting the oppositions top line. Joel Eriksson Ek, Jordan Greenway, and Marcus Foligno present matchup nightmares for opposing coaches and now it looks as if the Wild have another formidable threat with Boldy, Fiala, and Freddie Gaudreau.

Kaapo Kahkonen was once again strong in the Wild net and this presents another source of internal competition as Cam Talbot nears his return from injury. Evason and his staff have always been about earned ice time and if you recall last season when Talbot was out on multiple occasions Kahkonen seized control of the Wild net and played like a number one. It has been a long time since the Wild have had such a solid tandem between the pipes.

A good point earned yesterday in Colorado and now back to a few more days off before they resume with a home and home with their rival Chicago Blackhawks, Friday in Chicago and Saturday in St. Paul. It will be almost two years since the Blackhawks and Wild met last back on February 4th 2020, prior to the COVID-19 league shut down.
