Ten events that could make the second half of the NHL season highly entertaining

1. The New York Rangers acquire defenseman Ben Chiarot and a forward like Joe Pavelski or Tomas Hertl. With Igor Shesterkin in net, this is a team that could go deep.

2. Colorado goaltender Darcy Kuemper plays like he did for the Arizona Coyotes in 2018-19 and 2019-20. He posted a 2.33 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage in 2018-19 and a 2.22 and .928 save percentage the following seasons.

3. The Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers end up scrapping for the final playoff spot in the Pacific Division.

4. If Max Pacioretty, Jack Eichel and Mark Stone all get healthy enough to play together for the final 20 games for the Vegas Golden Knights.

6. The Boston Bruins complete a deal for Jakob Chychrun and he ends up paired with Charlie McAvoy.

7. The Tampa Bay Lightning figure out a way to add a blue chip right shot D Man. GM Julien BriseBois told the Athletic he simply doesn't have the cap space necessary to make a big splash. John Klingberg is making $4.25 million. What if Dallas retains salary and then the Red Wings act as a third team for cap purposes again. The chance to win three in a row is worth letting it all hang out.

8. Evgeni Malkin registers 20 goals for Pittsburgh in the second half of the season. It would be fun to see the Penguins gear up for another run at a Cup.

9. Some unexpected team like the Minnesota Wild or Washington Capitals makes a run at acquiring goalie Marc-Andre Fleury.

10. The Nashville Predators get Filip Forsberg to sign a new contract and then spend some of their $10 million in cap space on rentals to try to be this year's version of the Montreal Canadiens. They could probably land a scorer and a defenseman with that kind of space available.
