The New Jersey Devils started out flat….again.
And the San Jose Sharks made them pay for it. In the first two periods, the Sharks just overwhelmed the Devils offensively and Mackenzie Blackwood had to make some spectacular odd man rush saves throughout the game.
The Devils did cut the deficit to 4-2. But in the end, after a lazy play by Ty Smith in the Devils end while the net was empty, Shark’s Timo Meier was able to score the empty netter to make it 5-2. But let’s be honest here, the Devils late heroics attempt was a little too late.
Devils will go back on the road and take on the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.
Devils Sign Shakir Mukhamadullin
The third crown jewel of Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald’s 2020 first round draft picks (courtesy of the Vancouver Canucks VIA Tampa Bay Lightning trade for Blake “Pickles” Coleman), Shakir Mukhamadullin, has signed with the Devils. New Jersey has loaned him back to his KHL team, Salivate Yule Ufa for the remainder of the season. KHL regular season ends in early March 2022 and playoffs are decided at the end of April.
Jack Hughes Eight Year Extension
Great deal for all parties. Jack Hughes, Devils, and their fans. It is a long term commitment and now the focus needs to be on winning. Locking up Nico Hischier, Dougie Hamilton, and Hughes long term gives the team stability for years to come as they are the foundation for the present and future. Yesterday, Jack’s brother, Luke Hughes was named to Team USA Hockey’s World Junior Camp roster. Things are looking great for the Hughes family. Now, what will it take to pull Quinn Hughes out of Vancouver?
