The Los Angeles Kings snapped their five-game losing streak yesterday, defeating the Ottawa Senators 4-2.

It was a strong game overall for the Kings. They were by far the better team throughout the early part of the game and drew quite a few penalties, though they did let up a bit later on.

While the Kings did a good job staying out of the box, they faced a five-minute Senators power play near the end of the game, as a result of Brendan Lemieux seemingly biting Brady Tkachuk. Lemieux has since been offered an in-person hearing for the incident, so we’ll see what the punishment is.

However, the Kings did manage to kill it off and hold on for a 4-2 win.

It was a key victory, which helped the Kings to improve to 9-8-3 this season. There’s a pretty clear divide between the top six teams and bottom two teams within the Pacific Division and the win keeps the Kings in a competitive position.

Sean Durzi has been a great addition to the lineup so far, with a goal and three points in his first two NHL games. He’s been jumping up into the play and has taken on a key role on the power play already.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Durzi, given that Drew Doughty is nearing a return. Doughty will obviously provide a huge boost to the blue line, but Durzi has been good enough in a limited sample size to potentially stick around for longer.

The victory over Ottawa was also an important game for Cal Petersen, who has struggled at times early on. He stopped 30 of 32 shots in the win and while the second goal against was quite weak, it was a good bounce back game for him overall.

The Kings will play their next game at home on Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks.
