Following a huge winning streak, the Los Angeles Kings have hit a bit of a slump over their last few games.

They’ve dropped four games in a row, picking up just two of a possible eight points. While three of those losses did come against strong teams in the Winnipeg Jets, Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes, last night’s overtime loss against the Arizona Coyotes was one where the Kings really should’ve been able to pick up the extra point.

The Kings controlled much of the game, outshooting the Coyotes 38-27. However, it was really the first two periods where Los Angeles had momentum, before letting Arizona back in the game a bit in the third period and losing in overtime.

Karel Vejmelka’s play certainly has to be considered, as without him, the Kings almost surely would’ve picked up a regulation win. That said, Los Angeles needs to find a way to bury some of their chances.

The fourth line has been great for the Kings, as Brendan Lemieux and Blake Lizotte continue to click, doing a great job of pressuring opposing defenders to create turnovers. However, the top-nine has gone very quiet. Adrian Kempe is the only other forward with at least two points over the past four games, while the likes of Viktor Arvidsson, Andreas Athanasiou, Dustin Brown, Phillip Danault and Alex Iafallo are all without a point in that time.

The power play has been an issue once again, as the team has gone 0-for-10 on the man advantage over the stretch of four losses. The Kings’ special teams haven’t been anywhere near consistent enough this season and as we’re seeing, it’s costing them.

The Kings will look to snap their losing streak on Wednesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
