The Los Angeles Kings snapped their six-game losing streak over the weekend, picking up back-to-back wins.

The Kings had been shutout by the St. Louis Blues on Monday, before falling 3-2 to the Winnipeg Jets at home on Thursday. Los Angeles actually played very well at points in their game against the Blues but couldn’t score, while against the Jets, the Kings had the lead heading into the third period, but allowed two goals to lose in regulation.

On Saturday, however, the Kings played a much more complete game against the Montreal Canadiens, on route to their first win since the season opener. They were generating more chances off the rush and most importantly, their power play was clicking, with the Kings going 3-for-5 on the man advantage. Scoring has been a huge issue for the team this year and it was hugely important for the team to start capitalizing on their opportunities.

Then yesterday, the Kings found themselves down by two goals against the Buffalo Sabres. However, they pulled back in the second half of the game, generating multiple odd-man rushes partway through the second period, with Carl Grundstrom scoring on a nice individual effort to cut the lead to a single goal. Then in the third period, the Kings once again outshot the Sabres and after Anze Kopitar tied the game with a power play goal, Alex Iafallo finished off a series of great passes by tapping in the go-ahead goal, with the Kings hanging on for a 3-2 win.

Losing both Drew Doughty and Sean Walker was a blow for the Kings (then Viktor Arvidsson and Gabriel Vilardi entering COVID protocol didn't help either) but the team managed to put together two strong games over the weekend. Special teams also worked in the team’s favour, as they killed off all five penalties over the two games, while going 4-for-11 on the power play.

Next up, the Kings will play two home games this week against the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday, followed by the New Jersey Devils on Friday.
